Résumé: A Japanese daily, that was the unofficial voice of Japanese embassy, written in China, most of the articles being in fact translated from the Japanese. It was mocked by Morrison as a "Voice of Master", written in a Sino-Japanese sabir unpalatable to Chinese ear,and therefore deprived of any influence on Chinese opinion. But it was an amazingly open, up to date, newspaper, an irreplacable source of information on the late Qing news.
Note: Many news, editorials or op-ed. articles were devoted to criminal cases, legal reforms, etc. The paper published illuminating articles on Fu-zhu-li, and an extensive, almoste complete, judicial file on Wang Weiqin case.
