Topic: Lingchi 凌遲
Description: This is probably one of the very first photographic evidences on lingchi, taken in the 1890s; Norman, Harfeld (q.q.v.v) also published it and a similar one. Heindl claims that all the photographs he published in his book, including this one, were shot by himself during hist trip in the 1890s, but this is obviously wrong. The potter market of Matou 馬頭 was commonly used as the execution field of Canton.
