DocumentNature: Watercolor
Repository: BNF
Color: Color
Caption: no caption
Particulars: Watercolor on pith-paper
Topic: Lingchi 凌遲
Description: The lingchi of a pirate already cut in several pieces lying on the ground. The only realistic detail, the placard specifying the crime of the condemned, cannot conceal that this is a fancy representation, probably inspired by Western anatomic charts and religious icones.

1 Ressource_Provider: Jérôme Bourgon Title: Lingchi performed as an anatomic dissection Information: This highly irrealistic representation of a dismemberment or lingchi, though authentified by a legal placard lying on the ground, has nothing to do with real executions by lingchi. It migth proceed from anatomic plates, hence the meaty muscles whose volume are enhanced by shadows of the first picture, or the hieratism of Christ descent from the cross in the second, both betraying a strong Western, Christian influence.
