Text_Interest: This text accredits the idea that chinese torture is definitely not the only one in Asia (and even in the world) and that Chinese may not have the most refined practice (according to Sade the Persians are the most imaginative people for torture).
Sade took his examples in Jean-Nicolas DEMEUNIER L'esprit des usages et des coutumes (Pissot: London, 1776) and Guillaume-Thomas RAYNAL Histoire philosophique et politique des établissemens et du commerce, des européens dans les deux Indes (Libraires associés : Genève,1783-1784)
Comment: The examples quoted are the ones relatives to Asia, but they are, in Sade’s demonstration of human worldwide cruelty, approximately one half of the examples given (from page 886 to 900).
