Résumé: Giuseppe Messerotti Benvenuti was an Italian military lieutenent in duty in China during the Boxer's revolt. During his service he either wrote letters from Tianjing or Pekin to his family or took photos. His diary allows us to have a glance at the Chinese Empire in a very turbolent period, showing also some practises of the times.
